Brief review of V\/H\/S<\/strong>: Hitting US theaters on October 5 2012, \u201cV\/H\/S\u201d is a horror anthology that consists of six \u2018found footage\u2019 shorts, created by five different horror movie directors and one directing quartet. The big hype around this movie set our expectations high, but sadly \u201cV\/H\/S\u201d ends up as a let down, and far from being one of the best of its genre, despite the variety it offers. There are two solid shorts, two mediocre ones and two terrible ones, and as a result, \u201cV\/H\/S\u201d as a whole is \u2018average at best\u2019. Adam Wingard\u2019s main story, \u201cTape 56\u2033, is nothing more than a pathetic excuse to showcase the rest of the shorts and doesn\u2019t work on its own at all. Nobody will care for it, nor will even attempt to understand it. David Bruckner\u2019s \u201cAmateur Night\u201d is all over the place and has tons of pointless dialogues and obnoxious characters, but more patient viewers will be \u2018rewarded\u2019 with some good gore and creepy images. Ti West\u2019s \u201cSecond Honeymoon\u201d is boring as hell, but at least the twist ending is shocking, unexpected and works well. Glenn\u00a0McQuaid\u2019s \u201cTuesday the 17th\u201d not only feels trashy and amateurish, but the whole story is just plain stupid. Joe Swanberg\u2019s \u201cThe Sick Thing That Happened to Emily When She Was Younger\u201d is voyeuristic, nasty, bizarre, and everything but scary. Radio Silence\u2019s \u201c10\/31\/98\u2033 successfully blends different horror genres, and it\u2019s the scariest, most memorable and effective of the bunch.<\/p>\n

Overall summary of V\/H\/S:<\/strong>\u00a0Insanely overhyped, yet still a decent effort, \u201cV\/H\/S\u201d is an ambitious \u2018found footage\u2019 horror anthology with its highs and lows, that offers some gore, a couple of good scares and creative ideas, but at the end of the day, it\u2019s nothing especially groundbreaking.<\/p>\n
